      ASCC Club Meetings – Sept 9, 23 2017

Sept 9 – several key club members were traveling so we had limited members present and limited issues discussed.

Celebrities – Ary and Shawn are included in some recent Blacks BBQ videos. Get with Steve for the URL.

Upcoming series discussions at the annual meeting Oct 14 – Steve is refining the rules for this WEC style touring series he plans to propose, including how the A and B group racers would be paired together during the season.
Randy is hot for a Can Am series and is refining his car list and rules. Ridiculously expensive (e.g. Racer Silverline) cars will be discourage if not prohibited; cars known to be difficult to tune or race will be identified as allowed but “advanced skill required”.

Sept 23 – We had an ad-hoc club meeting before the last Group-5 race.

We had lots of discussion about a new venue with multiple tracks proposed by Tom Shaffer (of Shaffer Concrete and Outlaw Paintball?) in a 3000 sq-ft room on the 2nd floor over his paintball pro shop. We are looking forward to the new venue, and the opportunity to race our 1/24 cars without doping our regular track, and perhaps experimenting with Flexis and other 1/24 cars. Mark has communicated to Tom that ideally they should leave one track dry (perhaps the flat track) for 1/32 races with rubber tires.
Tom thinks the building will be ready for installing the tracks in Jan/feb 2018 and operational a few months later. We should consider if we want to host a few of our races there as “exhibitions” to generate local interest in the sport, and in our club.  Tom’s track will be for profit and include a parts counter/pro shop.

      New Series – Planning Meeting
You do not need 120% of the rules and other details of your series for the October 14 meeting, but as much as possible is preferred to not waste time. Use the paper forms on the corkboard or download the Word version from the forum.

Based on existing forum discussions we may have a Survey Monkey setup to collect members votes in advance of the meeting (so discussions are more focused at the actual meeting).
We are considering moving Group-C from the traditional 1st quarter to the 3Q (Jul-Sept) so that people don’t have to spend time building a new car during the always hectic summer months. A rally series will also be a default each year; it was suggested that we could reuse the Group-B cars we ran in 2016 in 2018.
We have four series remaining to decide on, (5 if count the details and dates of the rally series); so at the end of the meeting we may consider previous series as an alternative to the ones we have discussed, but if we already have six solid series we don’t need to rehash others to muddy the waters.

Marty has proposed a trip to Dallas Slot Cars in Feb/March 2018 for 1/24 races. He will share the details when they are finalized with the Tyler club and DSC as appropriate.

      Track Repair Days
Still to-be-determined – are dates to repair the scenery and walls of the road course.
Ditto for any specific dates for adding scenery to the rally track. The rally track will require multiple sessions in order to complete. We will probably work on one section at a time, such as building a cliff wall then a “valley”, forest areas etc.

Also be considered for the road track are Tire walls from either the Scalextric off the shelf walls or from the existing stash of dead tires in our shelves.

At 4-years old in Pensacola I repaired my steering linkage on my Ford Pedal-car. Dad later converted this car to a Blue Angel with ailerons and elevators with a working "stick/yoke"; the rudder was controlled by the steering wheel. I like all motorsports - I grew up going to a NASCAR Feeder track with Sportsman and Modified classes, and was lucky to attend drag races in 1970 at Orange County Raceway. My first solder-iron was a Christmas gift at 9yo; I modified T-Jets to be AFX spec before AFX Cars were in local stores. I rebuilt a few tractor & car (SIMCA) engines plus transmissions by 15yo (I still have my ring-compressor and valve spring tool) I am a former mountain and road bike geek & perennial sound engineer.
