I think we have all agreed that running F1 in Q3 just isn’t going to work with our “close-to-stock” plan. Two replacement series were floated at our meeting this weekend: Classic F1 and Classic GT.
Soooo…. we have to keep in mind that the purpose of the second series is to create a low-cost, low barrier-to-entry series that we can all enjoy.
Keeping that in mind, if we go with either one of these we will need to spec something that meets those two criteria.
Classic GT offers a much broader field of potential entries, but we need to spec brands/cars that will be competitive.
Classic F1 offers fewer options, but will force the issue of brand-spec.
With that being said, what are everyone’s ideas for a simple-spec series in either of these two categories?
For classic F1 I’m thinking Scaley with button magnets. (Gasp!!) Only because I don’t want to damage the car trying to remove the button mag.
For Classic GT… I haven’t formed an coherent enough opinion yet. (Although I would love to run an MGB which should be released by Scalextric by the time we run this series.) 😉

I’m all in for the Classic GT. I would suggest Ninco and Carrera with a NC8 spec motor. Non-magnet of course.

For classic F1, are the skinny tire cars part of the equation? Either way, I am in favor of retaining the button magnets.
Classic GT would also be cool. I am anxious to see the list of classic GT’s.
My .02 cents worth….

I was probably doing something else when you guys were talking about changing the F1 series. What is the problem with the stock F1 cars?

We are all having the same deslotting issue where the car winds up in the adjacent slot. It’s the ease with which it winds up there that has us concerned.
One thing we haven’t talked about and should experiment with before completely writing this off is ballast in the nose of the car. I don’t think any of us has really done much with that yet.
One other option is the B-Nova guide adaptors, which would allow us to fit wood guides. That really stretches the “box stock” intent, but if we want to run the cars we should consider it.
