Round 4 of the 2015 Lightning GT Series was held on February 28. The modifications to the cars has been settled with the change to P6 tires and modified guides. The cars are fast and more controllable, but there is still a variation in the speeds of the cars. Some cars are naturally quick and some are just slower. Driver skill still counts for a great deal. Check the column listing the car number from Round 3 to Round 4. Some cars that were near the top of the scoring sheet in Round 3 were near the bottom in Round 4 and vice versa. However, a driver unlucky enough to draw a slow car multiple times can find himself out of luck. I have tried to exclude the too quick or too slow cars from competition, but I only have two spare cars. The draw for the car that each driver will actually race has also proven to be problematic; the draw cannot be made until all the drivers are present with their cars, limiting the time that drivers have to test their car. In hindsight, the series should have been handled as an El Piloto-type series, and all the cars kept at the track in parc ferme.
I apologize for taking so long to post the Round 4 results. There was a computer problem during the uploading of race information and video and it was several days before it was available. The video took careful viewing to catch uncounted laps. There were a total of 6 laps with 5 different drivers that were not scored by the timing system. With every start and red flag re-start, the lap count must be monitored to see that the laps are properly recorded. I added the corrected laps in each heat and changed the total laps as well. It did make one change in overall finishing position as Steve and Austin swapped places.
My apologies for problems with the series. Preliminary testing with the cars seemed to indicate comparable performance and it was my hope that this would be a very fast driver series with a bare minimum of work to be done to the cars, racing them box stock. It has not quite worked out as I had thought and I hope the series has still been enjoyable.
