The first race in the Austin Slot Car Club 2021 Tourist Trophy Revival, sponsored by Immense Miniatures, was held on July 10. Ferrari GTOs swept the podium, with Mark L. prevailing over Russell M.’s GTO and John B. coming in third. With some members out of town, the field was a little light, but was helped by Jeff Senske, from Houston, driving one of Russell’s spare cars. Hampered by driving an unfamiliar car on an unfamiliar track, Jeff actually did pretty well.
The Tourist Trophy series features cars from the Tourist Trophy cars as raced at Goodwood in the early sixties. While most of the entrants used bodies from a variety of slot car manufacturers, mated to 3D printed or other alternate chassis. Randy and Erik opted to modify the original chassis that came with their cars, with mixed results.
It can be useful to compare the cars in the photos below, looking at total weight, downforce and what motors/chassis the various cars are running.
Please notice that I did not divide the racers into A and B groups. If we need to reinstate, I can.
