April 7th, 2012 held the first race of the second quarter featuring the 1970`s Prototypes: 3 Ferraris 312PB and two Alfa Romeos 33/3. It was going to be an exciting race and we all knew Kevin was the man to beat. He had been consistently turning in the low 3 second best laps for the past month in practice laps. Ary, who is always competitive, was running the Alfa as was Brian. Both came looking to win this series with their carefully tuned models.

The first heat featured Jim in the tight turned green lane, Ary in the typically fastest blue lane, and Brian in yellow. A crash in the very first turn set the tone. At just 7 laps into the race Ary had to pull his car to make a quick repair. Jim and Brian battled it out and everybody kept Roy busy at the far turn reslotting cars. Ary returned to the race but again had to pull his car at lap 27 for another repair. As he rejoined he set a new goal to turn the fastest lap of the heat which he did at 4.005. Brian won the heat turning 69 laps with Jim behind at 66 and Ary 13 laps behind the leader at 56.

Second heat featured Kevin in yellow, Jim moved to blue, and Brian to green. As expected Kevin, the Hammer, immediately set a fast lap of 4.033 but Jim, consistent and relentless as always, matched Kevin`s fastest lap and they both finished the race with 70 laps and identical fastest lap times of 3.969. Amazing. Brian followed at 67 laps.

Heat 3 saw Roy enter the race in yellow against Brian in blue and Kevin in green. Kevin bolted ahead and Roy and Brian battled side by side for much of the race. At lap 45 Roy passed the Hammer but could never quite catch up to Brian who won the heat 1/2 lap ahead of Roy and turning the fastest lap time of the heat at 4.056. Final results of this heat was Brian and Roy at 71 laps and Kevin at 69.

Heat 4: Ary came back in yellow, Kevin moved to blue, and Roy moved to green. Kevin immediately took the lead and held it until lap 29 when Ary finally made his move. From then on it was Kevin and Roy battling for 2nd place. It was side by side racing until Kevin deslotted at lap 60 and Roy pulled ahead and kept second position to the final, never close to catching Ary who turned 73 laps with the fastest lap time of 3.988. Final Result: Ary 73 laps, Roy 70, and Kevin at 69.

Heat 5 would determine the winner. Jim entered yellow 2 laps behind Roy in blue, and Ary in green 12 laps behind Roy due to his mechanical problems in the first heat. It was close racing until lap 8 when Ary squeezed the finger. He pulled ahead with a fast lap of 3.929 and never looked back. Roy followed Jim around the track for 43 laps before Jim deslotted and Roy passed and kept on going to a final heat result of 70 laps for Jim, 71 for Roy, and 74 for Ary.

Final results: Roy wins with 212 laps, Jim second at 209, Kevin third at 208, Brian 204, and Ary at 203 but with an amazing come back and the fastest lap of the day at 3.929.
