Formula 22 Round 5
December 6, 2024
Saturday was mid-40s and light rain. The track temp was mid 60s. A practice session was held at 11 volts to get feedback from the F22 drivers. By polling the drivers after the session, all preferred 11 volts for the 2025 series. This change should improve the handling for the NSR cars.
Six drivers went through tech and came to the line. The strange part was that the F22 cars had more grip than in any other rounds. Times dropped and total laps were way up. Now that’s not to say there weren’t any crashes. Randy’s Chaparral liveried #66 garnered the coveted Colapinto award for a spectacular spin between the bridge and button turn. The crash was so violent that it put a dent in the Armco barrier.
With the end of the sixth race, David won with 227.58 laps and a 3.701 best lap. Brian’s yellow B&H car took a very strong second with 220.24 laps and a best time of 3.892. It was a vastly improved car from round 4. John drove his third place Fernando Alonso Aston to a personal best of 218.23 laps and 3.861. Fourth went to Marc and his blue Red Bull running 209.25 laps and a 3.868 best lap. Mel ran fifth with 207.4 and 4.023 time. Randy “Colapinto” Alexis followed up in 6th with 204.3 laps and best time of 4.052 seconds.
One more round to go to finish the series and the year. The Formula 22 cars have proved to be very fast and surprisingly strong.
