Formula 22 Round 3
Oct. 26, 2024
Round 3 was a very competitive race with a bit of a twist. Mel was at the track, crutches, brace and all. And he drove really well. Marc showed a vast improvement over Round 2. Randy’s car and driving were much better. He said chamfering his tires made a difference. Erik was quick as usual. And John’s Aston was handling pretty well.
But all was not peaches and cream for Marty and Dave, our usual front runners. Marty had to pull his Pennzoil liveried F22 twice, finally with a another stripped crown gear. Dave seemed to have traction issues and hit the wall in the north turn really hard, damaging his wing. The field was left open for the mid-pack racers to make a move.
When the dust settled, Erik won with 217.75 laps and a best time of 3.856. John came in second with a close 216.37 laps and a 3.943. Third went to Marc and his immaculate blue Red Bull F22 with 215 laps and a 3.917. Dave was fourth at 212.94 and a 3.919. Mel, glad to be back, was fifth with 208.75 laps and a 3.891. Randy’s Chaparral was 6th with 206.9 and 4.026 best. Marty’s DNF put him 7th, but quick lap of the day at a blistering 3.789.
Opinions may vary, but F22 is shaping up to be a challenging, but interesting series.
