NSR Formula 22 – Race 1

NSR Formula 22 Round One
Oct. 11, 2025

The first round of Formula 22 ushered in a new era: Group A for experts and Group B for novice racers. Several years ago, we ran a B group together with A, received points from the overall tally and had it’s own awards. Now B has it’s own heats and runs at 10 volts versus 12 for Group A. I believe this to be a great decision for the newer drivers to have a chance for awrrards and compete with others on a similar level.

Randy won Group B running his white Chaparral liveried car to 202.73 laps and 4.082 best lap. New member, Mark Lyon and his red and black Alfa ran second with 188.7 laps and a best time of 4.305. Great run, Mark! Kim, dealing with mechanical issues, came in third in her Alfa with 124.23 laps and a best time of 4.598. The times for B were decent and the number of deslots appeared to be slightly less as a result of the 10 volt rule.

Group A had five entrants. During technical, Marty’s car registered 59 g on the mag marshal. After careful examination, Marty determined that the white chassis had bowed after baking. While there was no penalty for the first race, he quickly changed the car to a green chassis registering 33 g.

Dave had an excellent drive to 1st with his McLaren tallying 228.2 laps with a best lap of 3.742 . John’s Fernando Alonso Aston Martin had a stellar day coming home 2nd with 226.64 laps and a 3.779 best. Marty’s struggled a bit with his Mercedes chassis change coming home in 3rd with 221.23 and a 3.776 lap. 4th went to Marc Tyler and his beautiful blue Red Bull running 206.23 and a best lap of 3.894. Brian’s bright yellow B&H came home 5th with 202.3 laps and a 4.078 best.

Formula 22 is shaping up to be a good series. With Group B being a great place for new and novice drivers, we invite former members as well as new drivers to run with us in the Austin Slot Car Club.
