I just ordered four pairs of the new Scaleauto SC-2021 wheels/tires from Cric Crac – currently the only place that has them. Not surprising since Cric Crac is the retail face of Scaleauto. Looking forward to getting them in and seeing how they work. If they are anything like their 1/24 counterparts they will be fantastic! I can’t wait for this series.
All,
We could be looking for some alternative racing while our track gets repaired. Running HO on top of the rally track might be just the thing. Either that or we run on the rally track.
Nice looking track Erik!
Randy and All,
The wheels/tires will be available in Europe in one week and in the States when Alan orders them. They have already been manufactured and are just waiting for distributors to order and receive them. I will update everyone once they are available. We are still four months away so I am not too worried. You can still run your car with the stock shore 30 tires to get it set up and running. The foam tires will only improve things.
ALL:
The official rear wheel and tire for the upcoming RevoSlot series will be Scaleauto’s new SC-2012 rear foam tire/wheel combination. This will be the easiest way to get everyone on the same wheels/tires without any issues in how to glue on tires or even if they will work. We already know the Scaleauto Comp3 tires work great on our track. So looking forward to this series.

The details about the wheels/tires can be viewed on Scaleauto’s Facebook page.
David,
Great questions. You can run those tires but they will need to be trued all the way down to where they have no tread. The easier and perfered method is to use the Thunderslot slick rear tires. Having said that, they are unavailable from any on-line slot car retailer in the States. I just ordered the last three bags (12 tires) from Armchair racer in Australia. I ordered three bags with the thought to sell some, at my cost, to other racers that can’t find them.
The slick tires will need to be glued and then trued to make sure they are 100% round. It makes a big difference in this series.
The blue #21 is being run by Russell. The difference is that Russell painted his from a white kit last year before the #21 was a stock item from Thunderslot. Crazy. It’s a beautiful version.
Brian,
Thanks for posting this. I appreciate the fact they said the interest in hobbies in growing on social media sites but getting just 20 people out of the city of NY to show up is not what I would call a good turn out. Let’s hope that was an off night.
Tires, Tires and more Tires
The first race in the Austin Slot Car Clubs 2019 calendar is this coming Saturday and although there is a limited number of things you can do to improve the handling of your Group C contender the one item that can have a huge effect are your car’s tires.
Just like 1 to 1 racing, the tires you run can be the difference between finishing first or finishing somewhere else, and no one wants to finish somewhere else. The catch to the tires is that there are multiple choices you can run. Unlike the races held in the warmer months, the races in January and February can be down right frigid. The unconditioned club room can have an ambient temperature of 40 degrees with track temps not much warmer. This is a 50-degree swing from the temperatures in July and August. These colder temps mean the tried and true Slot It F30 tires do not have the same grip they would have in the summer. So the question is: what tires should I run? How about some F22’s? They have a lot more grip in the colder temps but don’t push them too hard accelerating out of the turns or they might start to blister. If that is the case, how about some N22’s? These have better durability than the F22’s but really need to be glued to the rim to hold them in place otherwise they can chatter during hard cornering. Then you could just go with standard F30’s and hope everyone’s personal heaters warm up the room to a temperature they will find some grip. What about some little tire warmers?
The forecast for the start of the race on Saturday is 60 degrees. Three choices of tires – F30’s, F22’s or N22’s. What will your choice be for the first race of the season? Let’s see who has chosen wisely.
Russell – thanks so much for posting the pics and making this so much easier to understand.
All – if you don’t have one of these chassis in your car you should get one. It makes all the difference in the world to get your car set up correctly.
Erick – Last time I checked Kings had some F30’s in stock. If they don’t, 132slotcar.us has them in stock.
Chassis – I don’t know if your new car comes with the adjustable chassis but if it does not it is well worth the $10 to get one. The other thing you would want to do is “bake” the chassis to make it as flat as possible. I can do it for you if you are not set up for it.
Looking forward to running with you.
All – I just heard from Rudy from Kings. Kings has numerous events going on this Saturday and we will have to park up the street at the flooring store – Pounds Floor and Tile, 8732 North Lamar, Austin TX 78753.
We are still doing the while elephant exchange – $20-ish limit.
RULES UPDATE
The rules for the McLaren M8D series have been updated based on the input and feedback from club members at our last club meeting before the series begins,
Things of note – front wheels and tires must remain stock, limited grinding to the front of the body is permitted, tips on how to set up the guide to move more freely and track power changing from 11v to 12v to allow a broader range of gears to be used.
Please post any comments about the rules to this forum. All comments welcomed.
