We had a very cool scaley or Carrera race with Lemans era cars like the Goodwood Revival.
This was before the 3D chassis were available. Allowing the 3D chassis and associated parts meant only using the expensive body of a Jaguar plus expensive aftermarket drive train etc. That killed the 3D option.
