The second round of the 2012 Group C Slot.it series welcomed two new drivers to the grid and saw the debut of the new Lancia LC2/85. The racing was exciting from the very beginning. Stephen and Brett both turned in impressive performances for one of their first races in this series, turning fast lap times in the realm of what the more experienced drivers aspired to when the track first opened. A testament to how much we have learned about initial car setup on the ASCC track. As their consistency improves they should find themselves rising into the middle of the pack, competing for more and more points.
Brian’s Sauber C9 was in the groove again this week, handling well and allowing him to set very consistent lap times after the first heat. Pushed hard by Russell and his “Chappy” Porsche, he managed to maintain a narrow lead to the end. Russell, Marty, and Ary all turned in very consistent performances, with average lap times generally being within a few hundredths across the three heats. Ary’s quest for fastest lap in the Blue lane wound up in him sacrificing a podium finish, but he did secure a blazing fast lap at 3.848 and the bonus point to go with it.
The racing will only get closer as drivers continue to tune and tweak their car setups ahead of Round 3, which should also see the return of Roy, Shawn, and Kevin to the starting grid.
