Racer Sideways Group 5 Proxy – Race #4
April 10th, 2021
The fourth round of the Racer Sideways Group 5 race saw another first time winner with Randy’s well balanced Ford Capri taking the top spot. The gap between Randy’s Capri and the next car was almost four full laps with the Capri running 210.75 total laps. That is a great result.
The second place Lancia Stratos was a past winner but proved to be a little too “hot” to control for some of the drivers. The Lancia finished with a total of 206.79 laps but did manage the fastest lap with a time of 3.913. Marty’s car was quick but needs to find some stability to find the top spot of the podium again.
The third placed BMW 320 was the winner of the last round and finished with a total of 205.38 laps and a fast lap of 4.098. Russell’s car was very stable but not as quick on the straight as the top two cars.
The fourth placed car was Mark’s BMW M1. This car finished with a total of 204.25 laps and a fast lap of 3.999. This BMW was quick and was stable but the handling seemed inconsistent. This allowed the car to have moments of speed while not being able to string together multiple quick laps. I am betting this car will perform much better in the final two rounds.
The fifth placed car was John’s BMW M1. There was some work performed on the car between the last round and this one but those tweaks did not appear to get the needed performance out of the car. I will bet John will be spending time getting this car ready to compete with the others in the final two rounds.
Overall, it looks like Marty’s Lancia Stratos has a pretty solid lead but behind him the next three positions are wide open with all three positions separated by only one point. The final two rounds will be key in determining if anyone can catch the Stratos and who out of Randy’s Capri, Russell’s BMW 320 and Mark’s BMW M1. Every point and every lap will be important. I can’t wait for the next round May 8th. Come join us for the live YouTube broadcast or catch up with the post-race story following the race.
