The final round of the Touring Car Series was more of a formality for Group B as Rich had accumulated enough points that he didn’t even need to attend the final round. The rest of the podium spots in the Group B field were yet to be determined as Mark and Alejandro virtually tied in points heading into the final round.
Group A was a different matter. The leader going into the final round, Marty, had to finish the race as he had already missed a round and could not have a mechanical and drop out of first place. It was his to lose. There was also a great battle behind Marty where Shawn and Steve were tied at 74 points.
At the end of the day it was Marty securing first place in the race and in the series overall. Shawn finished in second in the race with Steve in third. This meant that they were now tied in points in the series with the deciding factor for who would take second place coming down to total laps run. Shawn finished the series with 14.42 more laps than Steve and was the second place overall series finisher. Steve finished out the podium in third. David had some good results and finished the series in fourth place. Ary finished in fifth and Russell finished in sixth with both of these racers doing three and two races respectively.
Group B was won by Rich as we mentioned earlier even though he didn’t attend the race. As a matter of fact, there was only one racer from the Group B in attendance – Mark. As a result Mark was able to score the fastest lap for Group B and in the series results he was able to beat Alejandro by, you guessed it, one point. Alejandro had actually completed 13.19 more total laps but its points that count first so Mark was awarded second place in the series with Alejandro finishing third. Fourth place in the series was Mitch you had only competed in two rounds but did manage to pick up a fastest lap point in one of them – nice result.
At the end of the day the Touring Car Series was another great series with close racing deep in the field. Thanks to all those who prepared a car and came out to race.
