Stormy weather in and around Austin greeted our racers for the first event of our summer series, the Targa Florio 1970-1973 on our rally track. The overcast and rain kept temperatures reasonable at our venue, with a track temp of 85ºf at race time.
Nine racers participated, with Porsche 908/3 (NSR) Alfa Tipo 33 (slot.it) and Lola T280/290 (NSR) were well represented A couple Revoslot, an Alfa GTV, and a Ford Escort were thrown into the mix.
David C (1) Marc T (2) , and Marty M (3) made the podium, With newcomer Mark L nipping at their heels. The Revo sports coupes were not as fast as the fat prototype racers but Josh and Kim were very new to the cars. Mel who is a force to be reckoned with on the rally track could not make the first stage. It’s wide open at this point.
The Targa is an open series, so there is plenty to experiment with, motors, tires, gearing, and perhaps most of all, the guides on this very twisty track.
