We are trying a new race format for the Austin Slot Car club. All cars are angle-winder versions of NSR’s Porsche 997. These cars need to be tuned as all-round good performers, because depending on a coinflip, they will be running on our road course (heads), or rally course (tails). Scoring is done using a points system to allow easy movement between tracks in the same series.
Heads it was, the first event was held on the road course. Groups A and B raced in separate heats. Club lore has it that Anglewinders do not perform well on the road-track, but that did not seem to be the case this day with sub 4 second laps.
Group A
Marty M took first on the podium with 218.3 laps and a fast lap time of 3.83. (21 points ) In second for the day was Jeff S. from Houston with 212.66 laps and a 3.92 fastest lap (19 points). On the podium in third was Mel with 211.76 laps and a 3.981 second fast lap (18 points). Marc T. was just a bit over a half lap behind Mel for fourth. John B, and David C rounded out the field.

Group B
Randy A took the Group B podium with 198.25 laps and a 4.22 second fast laps (21 points).
Mark L was second with 191.5 laps, and a 4.43 second fast lap. (19 points) Kim’s controller was acting up, costing her laps, but took third with 125.75 laps and a 4.52 fast lap. (18 points)
A mostly successful inaugural race for this series, these cars should do quite well on our rally track, We’ll see what the future holds.
