To catch everyone up on this series, the NSR Porsche 997 Challenge was a provocative suggestion in last year’s planning meeting that we took up as a challenge. The cars are NSR Porsche 997’s in an anglewinder configuration. Anglewinder configurations have always been a challenge on our road track due to the level of torque and acceleration they provide in typical box-stock motors. In short: these cars are a hand full.
To add to the challenge, a unique aspect of this series is a coin toss AFTER technical inspection, when the cars are in Parc Ferme’, that determines which track we will run on that day. The road track, or the rally track.
The coin came up ‘heads’ for the last two races, placing us on the road track.
This resulted in a lot of de-slots for the drivers in both classes in both races. Track conditions between rounds 3 and 4 also changed enough that round 4 fast lap times and average lap times were slower almost across the board by up to two-tenths of a second and lap counts were down. The change could also be attributed to tires getting a bit tired after 4 rounds on the track, as these cars are very hard on the tires when driven on the edge.
I think drivers are not-so-secretly hoping the coin flip puts us back on the Rally track for the two races. Time will tell!
