2012 BRM Series

The following are series specific rules. The club’s general racing framework can be found here: Race Series Format.

For the 2012 BRM Series, the following exceptions apply:

  • Any Group-C or IMSA plastic body (kit) is allowed. All other gear (chassis, motor, etc) needs to be listed on the rules, must also respect minimal weight. 
  • Wood guide can be drilled in order to use braids designed for regular guide.
  • Any brand of screws and o-rings may be used.

FEES

Entrance fee per race is $5 for ASCC members, and $10 for non-members.
 
TRACK POWER
 
The series will be raced at 11 Volts.
 

1. CARS

   1.1    Car models eligible for BRM Challenges:

    1.2    All parts of the model must be the ones used on the car as it comes in the box.
    1.3    All parts must be in the stock position as designed and supplied by BRM. 
    1.4    Any part replacement or modification can only be done according to the rules herein.
 
 
2. BODIES
 
    2.1    Bodies must be complete of all its parts with the following exceptions:  mirrors, front winglets, wipers, antennas and tow hook.
    2.2    Fill caps and other details must be fitted at the start of a race.  (SCI post, BRM forum, 8-20-10, post #10 by Scaleracing).
    2.3    Clear headlight lenses must be fitted to begin a race.  (SCI post, BRM forum, 8-20-10, post #10 by Scaleracing).
    2.4    Both types of body mounting systems are legal.  You may retro fit the o-ring type chassis to earlier Porsche models (SCI post, BRM forum, 3-23-11, post #6 by Scaleracing).
    2.5    No modification to the body is allowed except for early Porsche models that are allowed to be converted to the o-ring removal system by modifying the post to the same diameter as the current cars.
    2.6    Bodies cannot be made lighter by sanding or any other means.
    2.7    Bodies may be bullet-proofed with Shoo Goo but you are not allowed to use Shoo Goo as weight – do not use a complete tube of Shoo Goo as a way to add weight to the body (SCI post, BRM forum, 3-23-11, post #6 by Scaleracing).
    2.8    Body kits can be used as long as the complete body is painted.   Clear coating the white plastic body is not allowed.
    2.9    Windows must remain transparent. Only tampo-prints that are included in the standard models or decals added in self painted kits are allowed as long as they are the same size as the stock model. 
    2.10  Rear wing attachment can be reinforced with glue or tape, provided the body shape is not substantially altered.
        2.10.1    On older Porsche bodies you may also tape the rear wing end plates to the side of the body as a means of reinforcement.
        2.10.2    On IMSA cars you can add a small amount of tape to the underside of the wing where it attaches to the body (SCI post, BRM forum, 3-23-11, post #6 by Scaleracing).
        2.10.3    On Toyotas you can install strapping tape over the wing mount on the chassis to hold it in place.
    2.11  Headlight buckets must be fitted if they come with the model being raced unless you can document the real car ran without them.  Example – Coke car and Budweiser car ran that way (SCI post, BRM forum, 8-20-10, post #10 by Scaleracing).
    2.12  The body weight should be no less than the standard box stock bodies as shown in the chart below.  Body minimum weight limit:

    2.13  Toyota bodies must be to the chassis with provided screws (fitted to bodies) and O-Rings (fitted to chassis)
    2.14  Body screws may not be run loose. . – see conflict on SCI post, BRM forum, 8-7-09, post #20 by Scaleracing
    2.15  Only original BRM body screws are allowed.
    2.16  Washers may be glued onto body screws for faster assembly.
    2.17  All the BRM aftermarket parts designed for each model can be used.
 
3. CHASSIS
 
    3.1    Straightening the chassis is allowed. – SCI post, BRM forum, 8-20-10, post #8 by Scaleracing.
    3.2    Filing the chassis in any way is not allowed.
        3.2.1    Opening the chassis body mounting holes in any way is not allowed.
        3.2.2    Removing or adding anything from and to the chassis is not allowed (SCI post, BRM Forum, 9-9-10, post #37 by Scaleracing).
    3.3    Trimming of the front edge of the chassis to allow for braid clearance is allowed only on the Porsche chassis for fitting the wood guide (S-026SW).
    3.4    Axle mounts are not allowed to be modified in any way.
    3.5    Axle bearings are not allowed to be modified in any way.  You may glue in the axle bearings to the chassis with a glue of your choice but cannot modify their fitment in any way. 
    3.6    In the first production Porsche 962C chassis it is permitted to modify chassis to allow adjustment of rear wheels and gear.  But only in the same area as the IMSA Car chassis, no extra plastic may be removed.
    3.7    Adhesive tape is allowed under the chassis to prevent the loss of the body screws. 
    3.8    The cockpit, the dashboard and the driver must be present and regularly fixed to the chassis as per specifications contained in the assembly instructions of all BRM kits.
    3.9    The cockpit, the dashboard and the driver must be painted.
    3.10  The magnet retaining strap must be fitted.
    3.11  Magnet is forbidden.
 
4. FRONT AXLES, WHEELS, HUBS and TIRES
 
    4.1    Maximum front wheel width tire-to-tire are:
        4.1.1    for any Porsche mm. 82
        4.1.2    for any Toyota mm. 80
        4.1.3    In no case may the wheels and tires be visible outside the body when viewed from above.
    4.2    Only BRM front tires are allowed.
    4.3    Truing the front tires is permitted as long as the diameter does not measure less than 23mm.  If the outer diameter is less than 23mm they must be replaced. 
    4.4    It is forbidden to treat tires with glue (or similar) for limiting its grip.
    4.5    Front wheel hubs must be complete with original inserts.  The type of insert to be used may be chosen from among those in the BRM catalogue and must be fully assembled and painted.
    4.6    Only BRM spacers are allowed between the chassis and wheel hubs.  They can be either the Teflon or Brass versions with the aim of achieving the maximum width allowed.
    4.7    Only BRM axles are allowed.  No drill blanks are ever allowed.
 
5. REAR AXLES, WHEELS, HUBS, TIRES and CROWN GEARS
 
    5.1    Maximum rear wheel width tire-to-tire are:
        5.1.1    for any Porsche mm. 83
        5.1.2    for any Toyota mm. 81
        5.1.3    In no case may the wheels and tires be visible outside the body when viewed from above.
    5.2    Only BRM rear tires are allowed.  Any tire compound may be used.
    5.3    Truing the rear tires is permitted as long as the diameter does not measure less than 27.5mm. If the outer diameter is less than 27.5mm they must be replaced. 
    5.4    Only original BRM bearings are allowed; they can be Teflon or Brass.
    5.5    Rear Bearings may be glued into the chassis. It is absolutely forbidden to change their position.
    5.6    Only original BRM axle stoppers are allowed.
    5.7    Only original BRM spacers are allowed, with the aim of achieving the maximum width allowed.
    5.8    Only original BRM crown gears are allowed; the number of teeth of the crowns is of free choice.
    5.9    Rear wheel hubs must be complete with original inserts; the type of insert to be used may be chosen from among those in the BRM catalogue and must be fully assembled and painted.
    5.10  Only BRM axles are allowed.  No drill blanks are ever allowed.
 
6. GUIDE BLADES (PICK-UP) and CONTACT BRAIDS
 
    6.1    Only original BRM Guide Blades (Pick-Up) are allowed.
    6.2    Guides must be held in place by provided BRM O-Ring.
        6.2.1    The O-Ring must be in the stock position.
        6.2.2    The O-Ring holding the guide may be glued to the post.  – SCI post, BRM forum, 3-23-11, post #269 by Scaleracing.
        6.2.3    Only one O-Ring is allowed on the guide post.
    6.3    Only BRM guide shims are allowed between the guide blade and the chassis.
    6.4    Only BRM braids are allowed.  If BRM braids are unavailable, the Scaleauto braids can be used (SCI post, BRM Forum, 4-6-11, by Scaleracing).
    6.5    No treatment may be added to the braid on the car or on the track.
 
7. MOTORS and PINIONS
 
    7.1    Only original BRM motors are allowed.
    7.2    Only original BRM pinions are allowed.  The number of teeth of the pinion is of free choice.
    7.3    Only BRM motor shims are allowed in the older Porsche chassis.
    7.4    Motors may not be fastened to the chassis with glue or tape.
    7.5    Removal or opening of the identification label on the motor is prohibited.
    7.6    Motor leads must remain as supplied by BRM.  No modification to fitment or length allowed.
        7.6.1    Wood guide motor leads can be substituted only if the BRM wood guide is used.
    7.7    New motors will be allowed in the future, if specifically notified by BRM Model Cars, with special modification of this technical regulation.
 
8. WEIGHTS and BALLASTS
 
    8.1    The minimum weight for any BRM car is 180 grams.
    8.2    BRM brass shaped weights, specific to each model, can be used for balancing the model. No other type of ballast is allowed.
    8.3    All shaped brass weights must be fixed in the chassis in areas of the same shape.
        8.3.1    All shaped brass weights must be held in place with double sided adhesive tape.
 
9. LIQUIDS, OILS AND GREASES
 
    9.1    You may use any oil or grease to lubricate motor, gears and axles.
    9.2    No tire treatment of any kind is allowed.
 
And finally, anything not expressly permitted by this Rules Book is prohibited
